Embark on Hysterical Voyage with HPT158
It's the late 1930s: Europe stands on the brink of war; Russia spirals deeper into Stalinist control; and the U.S. ? Well, it's a tad bit depressed. The stage is set for international intrigue, but aboard famed pirate Barry D'treasure's luxurious transatlantic cruise liner, life is sweeter than a Shirley Temple, and just as rosy! With distinguished passengers ranging from world-renowned guru Eve Angelicist to sexy French Oceanographer Amelie Talbitmoist and that silver-tongued crooner Sam N. Chantedevening, Barry's glamorous guests are turning heads faster than a Ginger Rogers two-step. But that doesn't matter to former child starlet Little Miss Dee Meaner. A has-been at the age of eleven, Little Miss Dee will stop at nothing to regain the spotlight. So when the ship is mysteriously hijacked, a wily Private Eye is called upon to discover the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth: Why is Miss Dee hanging around with dodgy German film director Indy Skyes, and doesn't he look a lot like that exiled former dictator? Is the ship really being steered by a great white shark? And whatever happened to those Snackwell cookies? They were great! With secrets abounding, and with the ship being steered into iceberg-infested waters, Barry's got a sinking feeling that there may be more to this plot that meets his one good eye.
Sam Gale Rosen '06, a History and Literature concentrator, and Josh Brener '07, an English concentrator, co-wrote this year's script. Both are veterans of the Pudding stage, having been cast members in HPT 156 As The Word Turns and last year's HPT 157 Terms of Frontierment . “I couldn't be more pleased with the caliber of this script. This year's script comp was easily the most competitive in recent years, but Sam and Josh's remarkable sense of humor consistently stood out in their work, and that's what distinguished them from the pack,” said HPT President John Blickstead '06.
