The Hasty Pudding Theatricals is excited to announce that Derrick L. Wang '06 has been selected to compose the score for this year's show: Terms of Frontierment . Though it is very rare for a composer to score two consecutive Pudding shows, HPT welcomes back the extraordinarily talented Wang, who scored last year's production, As The Word Turns . Band VP Michael P. Corayer '06 said, “Derrick's music is innovative and exciting. It's so catchy that you'll be humming it well after you leave the theater. I'm really looking forward to working with Derrick again this year, and I'm sure this year's score will be another great success.”
Wang's musical experience spans far beyond the reaches of HPT. He is a music concentrator in Mather House and he hails from Cockeysville , MD , just outside Baltimore , where he graduated from Gilman School and the Peabody Preparatory. He began playing the piano and attempting to compose in the late 80's. He co-wrote the score for the Harvard Freshman musical in 2003 and was a winner of the 2002 Young Playwrights' Festival at Center Stage. His compositional styles include classical, theater, pop, and rock.
Wang is excited to return to the company, but doesn't expect his audiences to recognize any of this year's songs. He said, “The HPT 156 music tended towards funky '60's styles, whereas HPT 157 as a Western will probably emphasize the influences of rural Americana.” -- October 23, 2004
