HPT Picks Composer for 158th Production

The Hasty Pudding Theatricals is thrilled to announce that it has chosen Ben Green '06 to compose the music for HPT 158: Some Like It Yacht . Green's last contribution to HPT was three years ago in HPT 155: It's a Wonderful Afterlife . Green's musical talent and success with his last score led HPT to bring him on for a second run, says Band VP Michael Corayer '06. “ I'm excited to have Ben Green back as a composer for the Hasty Pudding Theatricals. His music captures the unique humor, style, and excitement that can only be defined as ‘Pudding.'”

Green, a music and computer science concentrator in Quincy , hails from nearby Newton , Massachusetts and attended Newton North High School . His passion for music and composing is not new – he has been playing piano since he was five years old and began composing when he was just ten. Green's musical and composer credits are extensive: he has been the musical director for several shows on campus, including Sunday in the Park with George, A New Brain, and Princess Ida , and he works extensively with the Harvard Pops Orchestra. Additionally, Green has written a full length musical with Charlie Miller entitled Finding Their Guitar that was featured at a playwrights' festival at the Loeb Experimental Theater.

Green is excited to be back with the company: “HPT 155 was my first experience writing showtunes and I'm looking forward to creating some great songs will a little bit more experience under my belt.” He adds that the audience can expect the same uproarious scores they have come to love, sprinkled with a “nautical flavor, which I think can be a lot of fun.”
