The Hasty Pudding Theatricals is the oldest theater company in America. Every year, we put on an entirely student written, composed, and produced professional-scale comedy musical. Our show is full of puns, cross-dressing, ridiculous plot twists, and it culminates in a kick line!
We perform 35 shows in Cambridge, go on tour for a weekend in New York City and a week in Bermuda. We also kick off our show with special Man and Woman of the Year Events, where we invite celebrity honorees to campus for a parade, to roast them on stage, and to premiere our show.

Cast
Comp Cast
Performing in the Hasty Pudding show is one of the most intense and rewarding creative experiences at Harvard! Cast members take on larger-than-life characters to sing, dance, and act in a full Broadway schedule of 8 shows a week from February to March! Auditions take place in the fall, and the rehearsals begin in January over J-term. If you’d like to learn more about joining the Cast of the third oldest theatrical organization in the world, fill out our interest form below and read up about being on Cast!
For preliminary auditions, we ask that you prepare a 16-32 bar cut of a musical theater (or musical theater-esque) song for your audition. We will provide an accompanist, so bring the sheet music with you! Additionally, we will ask you to read two character sides from this year’s show. There’s no need to prepare the sides ahead of time – we will provide you a copy of them at the audition. However, the sides will be sent out prior to audition day so you can familiarize yourself with them (but please do not memorize them!) If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].

Band
Comp Band
As part of the Hasty Pudding Band, you will have the opportunity to hone your musicianship and playing ability through performing with some of the most talented instrumentalists and vocalists on campus, as well as benefit from advice and guidance from a group of extraordinary music professionals! Outside of music, the Band prides itself on its ability to have fun, with weekly social events, several outings throughout the semester, and shenanigans during the show run!

Tech
Comp Tech
Tech handles everything from costuming and props to lighting and set construction. They have a blast backstage and in the wings during every show, coordinating costume changes, props, and drops! There is no prior experience required, and the comp will take place in the Fall. If you like legos, you’ll like Tech.
When: Tech Comp happens over three weeks in late September with the first round being an application and interview (application below where you can also sign up for an interview)! For more information on the comp as well as expectations and roles click below.

Business Staff
Comp BStaff
The Business Staff—BStaff—manages all the company’s finances and the logistical production of the show, including marketing, ticket sales, advertising, press, tour, and our Man and Woman of the Year events! There is no prior experience required, and the comp teaches you valuable business skills as you sell advertisements and tickets and so much more!

Creative Team
Comp Creative
Details: The creative team consists of the two show writers, a lyricist, a composer, an assistant choreographer, and a poster artist. They work on writing the show over the summer, so the comp has already begun!
When: Script, lyrics, composer, and choreographer comps are all held in the Spring. The Poster comp is held in the Fall.
